Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 20, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Houm app ("Houm", "we", "us" or "our") handles information. Houm has no backend of its own: it is a client that talks directly from your device to the servers and third-party services you choose to connect — your own smart home, and any self-hosted services you configure. By using the app, you agree to the handling of information as described below.
1. There is no Houm account, and no Houm server
Houm does not ask you to create an account with us, and it does not send your data to any server we operate — because we don't operate one. Every screen in the app is a direct connection from your device to a server you configure: your smart home, or a self-hosted service such as Plex, Tautulli, Radarr, Sonarr, NZBGet, Proxmox, Unraid or Portainer.
2. Information the app handles
We may handle the following categories of information, entirely on your device or in direct connections you set up:
- Connection settings: the host, port, credentials and API keys you enter for each service you switch on, stored locally on your device.
- Smart home data: the accessories, rooms and cameras in your Apple Home or Google Home, read and controlled through Apple's HomeKit framework or Google's Home APIs SDK, on-device or through Google's consent flow.
- Plex account information: when you sign in with Plex, the app exchanges a one-time PIN for a session with plex.tv and your own Plex Media Server, as described in Plex's own privacy policy.
- Data from your own servers: whatever your Radarr, Sonarr, NZBGet, Proxmox, Unraid or Portainer instance returns — libraries, queues, streams, containers and the like — displayed in the app and cached on-device so a screen has something to show while it refreshes.
3. How this information is used
Connection settings and cached data are used only to draw the app's screens and to send the requests you take — starting a download, requesting a title, switching an accessory, restarting a container. None of it is analyzed, profiled or used for advertising.
4. How information is shared
We do not sell, rent or share your information, because we never receive it. Data only ever travels between your device and the servers you point it at: your smart home, your self-hosted services, and — when you sign in with Plex — plex.tv and your Plex Media Server. The app includes no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs.
5. Data retention
Connection settings and cached data stay on your device until you remove them — by disconnecting a service, signing out, or uninstalling the app. Nothing is retained anywhere else, because nothing is sent anywhere else.
6. Your choices
You control every connection the app makes: switch a service off, edit or clear its connection settings, or sign out of Plex at any time from Settings. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored locally.
7. Security
Connection credentials are stored on-device using standard platform storage. Where a server you connect to uses HTTPS, the app verifies its certificate by default; an explicit, per-connection switch is available for self-signed certificates on servers you trust, such as ones on your own local network. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Third-party services
Signing in with Plex is governed by Plex's own privacy policy and terms. Apple Home and Google Home data is governed by Apple's and Google's respective privacy policies. We encourage you to review those policies for the services you connect.
9. Children's privacy
The app is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of majority in their local jurisdiction.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the "Last updated" date above.
